DDA delivers a multi-layered eLearning platform to train clinicians worldwide on swallowing disorders.
The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) joined with St. Josephís Voice and Swallowing Center and Johns Hopkins University to develop an assessment of swallowing function and impairment, known as the the MBSImP method. The MBSImP method is used worldwide by practices, universities, and hospitals. Because the method is so widely used, the institutions were looking for an eLearning platform to use as the primary source for training on the method. Dynamic Digital Advertising (DDA) was asked to create an eLearning platform to effectively and quickly train speech-language pathologists on the MBSImP method.
DDA would design, develop, and program a multi-layered eLearning platform that presents insights to the revolutionary method for assessing swallowing disorders. The platform would include informative videos, animations, supplementary content, information on studies, a full practice area, and a testing area so users could confirm their knowledge of the MBSImP method. Narration would accompany all aspects of the platform to assist in effectively training users. An additional layer for physicians would also be developed so they could easily access additional platform features and privately keep patient records.
DDA Medical designed the eLearning platform to comprise 73 embedded fluoroscopy videos with 73 synchronized animations that included the narration and supplementary content. Fifteen full-length swallowing studies and 20 individual studies were also included. A full practice area and a separate reliability testing area ensured users knew all of the necessary information regarding the MBSImP method. DDA Medical created all of the 3D models for the animations in-house and programmed the testing portion to grant a passing score only to physicians who correctly answered 80 percent of the questions on 10 modified barium swallow (MBS) case studies. The secondary layer for physicians that DDA Medical developed allowed physician access to an area where patient cases, progress, treatments, and diagnoses could be tracked. Additional features allowed the physicians to fill out a standardized form detailing a patientís history and subsequent studies. Physicians could also keep records of past patients and make updates to record new data. DDA Medical made the platform HIPAA compliant, so the database keeps all patient information private so it cannot be breeched. The database would greatly benefit physicians who use it because all information can be used for present and future speech-pathology use.
DDA Medicalís team of qualified professionals created one of the most innovative eLearning platforms for clinician use. DDA Medical created and animated the 3D animations from scratch, and the client cited DDA Medicalís esophageal animations as the most detailed and accurate in the world. The eLearning platform helped clinicians demonstrate their proficiency in the MBSImP method of swallowing assessment and continues to be a resource worldwide. DDA Medicalís expertise in all aspects of the presentation allowed the institutions to successfully teach speech and language pathologists worldwide a researched-based standardization of the modified barium swallow (MBS).
