DDA has established a strong working relationship with Philips Healthcare, having previously delivered two Virtual Medical Simulations to them in the past. The HeartNavigator eLearning tool built on that legacy by featuring a virtual 3D environment, live video of a performer from the DDA Actors’ Network with subsequent voice over narration, both passive and active simulations of procedures, a testing module, closed captioning, log-in and registration pages, and an administrative back-end system for reporting user data. The instruction begins with a passive simulation which explains the procedures and instructs the user on how to perform them. This is followed by an active simulation in which users can demonstrate their knowledge base in practice while receiving feedback on tasks performed indicating whether or not they were done correctly. If the user needs additional help, they may access a demonstration area which will provide additional assistance during the learning process. The testing module contains multiple choice questions designed to assess users’ understanding of the critically important information, and offers a personalized, dated certificate of completion which can be printed or saved once a passing score has been attained. By rolling out this Virtual Medical Simulation with the HeartNavigator system, Philips Healthcare has ensured that clinicians which use their new product will be trained in an interactive, engaging, and thoroughly effective way.
