The familiar sounds of the NFL’s ‘theme song’ beginning Thursday night, and in full glory on Sunday, made me happy, football season full ahead. Of course due to the fact that there was trim to sand and paint and two benefits to go to (and win stuff at, whee) there was not much actual football watching going on. Who has time to sit on the couch for that many hours? Now who wishes they did?? ME! But there’s always work to be done, especially now that summer ‘vacation’ is over. But I did have a good time at the two benefits we went to. One was for a kid with Muscular Dystrophy so that his family could get a new handicapped van. The other was a cancer fundraiser in memoriam of a friend’s mom. In both situations, I had the lovely time of having to go through the usual small talk, something I can’t say that I’m very good at, but can usually hold my own. Inevitably the conversation starter is ‘what do you do?’ which usually is a bit difficult for me to answer. It’s not that I don’t know what I do, it’s a matter of trying to tame down the fun answers I get to what I do. I prefer to call myself a ‘computer geek by profession’, but I usually wind up narrowing it down to ‘I build websites’. Of course this doesn’t nearly describe what I do, especially since most people assume that it’s the design aspect of ‘building websites’ rather than the nuts and bolts. So I usually have to clarify that as well. At least people have stopped asking random support questions, now it’s more of a ‘yeah I can barely figure out how to search’ type responses. At least that’s changed in the last few years. I think it helps that high speed connections have become so popular, along with the blogosphere and facebook, people are getting to know how to do basic ‘internets’ things.?
