Backing Up

The original title for my blog was going to be B is for Backups. Then I noticed that Mick’s blog from last week was title C is for Cookies. We are starting to think more and more alike, that is a scary thought.

Ok, back to the blog at hand…

I always have backups in my life as a mom and as a Search Engine Optimization Specialist at DDA.

In my minivan, I keep a backpack filled with an extra set of clothes for all of my kids, spare bathing suits, diapers and even sneakers, because you just never know what will happen. I upload my photographs to an online website when I have them printed, save a copy on my computer and burn a cd for safe keeping, just in case!

At home, I have backup makeup, which does come in handy every once in a while. For example, I was camping this weekend and took my travel makeup case with only the essentials in it. (Makeup? When camping? I know, I know) When we got home yesterday I forgot to get it out of the truck and so this morning I am wearing the backup makeup. It’s not as nice looking as the usual shadows and glosses but I had to weigh my options… throw on the makeup that I have or go to work “eau natural” and scare the co-workers.

When I begin website optimization for any of the clients enrolled in our SureThing Optimization Program, the first thing that I do is make a backup of all files that I will be working on. I find this to be very important just in case there is a problem with the way a file may look once uploaded. I immediately upload the original file and being to fix the file with an error.

At DDA, a search engine marketing company, we even have an archive day in the office where all files are backed up and put away for safe keeping. It is just that extra step that saves us when the unexpected happens… like when my son insists on stomping in a puddle. Bring on the backups!
