Customized Google Holiday Results

We all know that Google likes to mark events by replacing its primary-colored Google Logo with an artistic variation. You can see them all here http://www.google.com/logos/. As always they do holiday logos. This year it is a series of cards A new card to it added each day. This logo is often reflected on the home page and and on the inside pages.

But this year I noticed something different. Google has added some festive flavor to the dividing line between the sponsored links and the search engine listing main results. You can see this by typing “Christmas” in the search box. You will notice a string of Christmas lights is used instead of a line. Now type in Hanukkah and the line changes again, this time to Dreidels.

Take heed, while used here for fun, lessons can be learned about presenting customized content to your user. Even when done subtly, it makes the user feel more connected with your site and more likely to believe that you can provide them with the information they are looking for.
