Hitting the Target
Yesterday my girlfriend and I were watching the marathon of Harry Potter movies that were on ABC family, when we saw a commercial for IHOP. I don’t know if it was the power of marketing or the amount of boredom induced by the later Harry Potter films, but we decided right then and there that we needed to go out and get a late dinner at the closest International House of Free Coffee Refills. Before you know it I was polishing off a stack of New York Cheesecake pancakes and enjoying a nice fresh omelet.
There is something to be said for the power of commercials and advertising. Most of the amount of blatant marketing we are subjected to on a daily basis goes in one ear and out the other, but every once in a while an ad, commercial, website, radio commercial, or something marketing related grabs our interest and pulls us in. Maybe we were already previously interested in that product, or it was something we just hadn’t yet learned about but want as soon as we become informed. If each ad generates that sort of interest in even 1% of the people who view it, it can be worth it if enough people are exposed.
