The Importance of the Internet
The other day, my daughter said that for her homework she needed a dictionary. I was surprised since it was not on her supply list and then I realized that I don’t even own a dictionary! My first instinct was to have her go to dictionary.com and use that, but she repeated that she needs me to buy an actual dictionary. So off we went to the store and she was prepared for her next day of vocabulary definitions. It is so funny to me how important the Internet is in our everyday lives. I mean, how did we live without it!
Working as a Search Engine Optimization Specialist at DDA, I am constantly using the Internet. Whether I am checking on traffic reports for our clients in our SureThing Optimization Program or double checking that the website optimization I have implemented is uploaded, I always have a browser open. Come to think of it I have two browsers open throughout the day!
Posting reports and proofs online has become an everyday task. From brochure designs and catalog designs to tradeshow graphics and website redesigns (obviously), our clients are able to view anything they want via the Internet. Email has taken the place of making a telephone call. On rare occasions do I speak to clients, and even co-workers for that matter. Most of our interaction takes place via email.
The Internet keeps clients in touch with website designers as well as keeping family members in touch with each other without skipping a beat. I am currently in touch with a childhood friend living in Japan, and thanks to the Internet, it’s like he is still right around the corner. Gotta love the Internet!!
