Dad’s Day Weekend

This past weekend was Father’s Day weekend, and I must say I had an enjoyable evening spending time with my brother and Father Saturday night. We went out Saturday because my brother had a sermon to deliver at his church early Sunday morning and had to be in bed early.

Spending time at home with my dad is something I really appreciate being able to do. We have all these “commercial” holidays that are designed to make you get out there and spend money, with advertising, broadcast television commercials, and marketing specifically directed towards people looking to get last minute presents for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Valentine’s Day, Canadian Flag day, whatever.

The thing is, even though it’s supposedly an “artificial” holiday, Father’s Day this year really allowed me to appreciate seeing and hanging out with my dad, something I haven’t really done too often recently. I think family is something we take for granted sometimes, in fact most of the time, and it’s nice every once in a while to get a little reminder of all they’ve done for me.
