My Desk: Currently a 3D Animation Station

In animation, blocking in character locations and planning object motions is the first step toward actually animating something.  I’m spending today creating animated “storyboards” for a 3d animation I’m doing. I will be posing and moving the model along a set of keyframes to match up with the blocking we want in the animation. Doing this is advantageous to us as we move ahead and add detailed animation, morphs, and lip syncing.

Working in Lightwave has gotten exponentially easier for me to do with every additional month I spend here at DDA. As with any artist’s tool, the quality of the work can go up whenever the artist becomes more proficient in its use. Right now the video department is working on the best way to  get a 3d model and a live action actor to sync up together. We have the technique down now; in the future, live action video blended with stunning 3d animation will be cake for us.
