Most importantly, HAVE FUN!
Yesterday, after the dinner dishes were cleaned up, my husband and I packed up the kids and took our 4-year old to his first soccer practice. One of many that we will be driving him to for the next two months. He sat in the back seat with his soccer ball on his lap, shin guards on his shins and soccer cleats on his feet ready for whatever mom and dad had signed him up for. I sat in the passenger seat, my stomach in knots hoping that he would listen to the coach, play with the other kids and most importantly HAVE FUN, because well, isn’t that what you’re suppose to do when you’re four?
Once we arrived, he sat on the bench and was very quiet until a boy probably a year older came over and said to me, “When is he going to be done being shy?”. I smiled at the dear little boy and about a minute later our soccer champ was done being shy and was soon rolling down the nearby hill with the other 4- and 5-year olds. He was having FUN!
It’s now 7:10am and my soccer player and his 1 1/2 year old brother are completely exhausted and still sleeping while I am having MY fun — a brochure design for a company that supplies and manufactures gas measurement products. Later today, I will be meeting with the DDA staff to review an eLearning Interface design we are currently working on for scientists, by scientists. And speaking of fun, DDA’s fully equipped video department and digital photography studio is where even more fun is located. There you will find a team of DDA staffers editing video, creating commercials and working through interactive media, live webcasting and streaming video projects. Sounds like fun to me!
I’m so thankful my job includes the much needed element of fun and as we drove home from soccer practice last night, I asked my star player, “Did you have fun?” and he replied with a smile and big eyes — “YEP”!
