Relay for Life
This past weekend, I spent my time at an annual 24-hour non-stop relay race. It is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society called the “Relay for Life” that I have participated in for the past 6 years. During the day, it is a carnival atmosphere, lots of fun, food and games. But it is grueling for me as I am not the most physically fit person, and the heat of the day and the chill of the night takes its toll as team members take turns passing a baton at hourly intervals to keep one person active throughout the 24 hour period. It’s 24 hours to remind us that Cancer never sleeps. Our team theme was a beverage company with the logo “Cancer Sucks” and a cartoon can of ”Cure”. There are dozens of teams, with wheelchairs, baby strollers and I even met an 82 year old survivor/participant, but there is a special one-woman team who walks the whole time every year. This weekend she celebrated her 300th hour walking- she is a force to be respected and admired. Our Bensalem chapter ended its Relay with $183,800+ raised, and they will continue to collect pledges through August. I want to take the opportunity to thank all of the fantastic graphic artists, videographers, search engine optimization specialists, seo marketers, programmers, copywriters, project coordinators, web developers, and especially Elizabeth, here at DDA, for always giving of their hearts and for their generous donations. Thank you.
