Birds of a Feather
Did you know that Lady Gouldian Finches have no natural instincts? I was told by a bird fanatic that they are completely man made birds and were not originally found in the wild. In order to properly keep Gouldian Finches, a Canary has to be living with them in order to teach them how to eat. Otherwise they would die. Most Gouldian Finches don’t even have parental instincts and will abandon their eggs due to the fact that they simply have no idea what to do with them.
Artists are similar in ways, just not to the extreme of the Gouldian Finch. We each have our own fortes and only when we are all under one roof can we learn from each other. Illustrators can learn to be web builders and programmers can learn to be designers. How dull it would be if we were only one thing, forced to stay within our little comfort art?
At DDA, we each play a double role, we are all both Gouldian Finches and Canaries.
And, just in case you are wondering what brought this about, we adopted a cage of 3 Gouldian Finches and a Canary this past Sunday. Along with two more Love Birds for the flock. Next weekend we will most likely go back for some Society Finches.
