Lead by Example
I’m not happy with my cable company. Then again, since I think the price of cable is outrageous, I never am and really just want to get rid of it for good. But in any case, my main problem at the moment is transparency or the lack thereof.
I don’t understand why companies like the cable guys think it’s OK to mislead or outright trick customers. Now, I’m not trying to be too harsh or make any sweeping generalizations, but I think most people can agree that there’s often fine print or some crazy clause hidden somewhere in the paperwork that they just throw out at you when it’s most convenient for them. I know I sound bitter.
It’s really important to me to not mislead our clients at DDA and this includes prospective clients. I don’t want to walk them down a path they will later regret. That’s why we try to be as open as we possibly can from the very beginning. Whether it’s website design and development, video production, custom programming, search engine marketing (SEM), medical animations, illustrations, or so much more that a client is interested in, we are up front and take the time to explain all of the issues.
I don’t ever want to have to go back to one our proposals and say to a client “Well, you signed up for package A, and while we did offer that service to you for the first three months, you needed to sign up for package B to get it permanently.”
You know, I think for me it all comes down to justification. I can easily sit down with any person from any industry, corporate or medical, and after showing them our samples and explaining our custom development process, I know they’ll understand immediately that they are getting great value for the price. I have the same amount of confidence that after 16 hours with a cable company, I would not understand why I am paying as much as I am to receive what I do.
But, maybe I just need to relax, focus on all of the traditional and interactive marketing and advertising services we offer, and hope that others will one day follow our example.
