Social Networking & Going Green

Since the critique for my Bliss campaign has come and gone, I think I’ll take a break from writing about it. (Just in case you were curious, the crit went very well and we are moving onward to new and exciting projects.)

We, at DDA, are juggling projects left and right. My time today was mostly spent on a networking site, hammering out tiny details on a very-nearly-completed print design project, designing another calendar, adding images to a Power Point slide design, making small web edits and planning for a new section to a site we’ve been working on for months.

The new networking site that we are designing will utilize a moving background, which is not something commonly seen in web design. Because of the content and purpose of the site, the motion background fits well. It is still in the beginning stages, so I won’t go into too much detail.

The Power Point project is an exciting one because we are working with a green company, and since DDA is going green, we are in full support! Hopefully we will be able to work with more green companies in the future.

Weekend Routine

I found myself looking at my previous blog over the weekend and using it as my task list. I was excited to see that things were getting accomplished. Friday was very productive because a few ongoing projects either came to a close or got to a good stopping point. A website that I have been working on for a really long time was finally made live, I continued with an illustration project that is high priority and I was able to get pretty far with another web site project.

Saturday rolled along and it was the day for Jeepie, my Jeep Wrangler’s, inspection. Fortunately she passed, but it took 3 hours to get her inspected and turns out that I need some MORE work done to her. (Which will be addressed tomorrow.) Needless to say, Saturday was pretty shot. I spent most of the time sleeping or watching my car get tinkered with. Not much work got done Saturday.

Sunday came too fast and I still needed to visit the Zoo for homework, which took a good chunk out of my schedule. At least it was fun. I had to choose an animal to promote and sketch it for future reference. I managed to get to the zoo and immediately thought that I was going to choose a herp, however I was not that impressed with their selection. Instead I found interest is a cute mammal called a Giant Elephant Shrew. I still have time to choose another animal if I find something that trumps the little wiggly nose and deer like so again, not much of my ‘work’ got done.

Work today is moving at a quick pace; I can’t believe it’s already almost time for me to go to class! I’ve been developing a look for a new networking site and working out some kinks to technical aspects of it. I’ve also spent time researching online and getting ideas from other networking site behemoths. I’ve also been developing animated ‘avatars’, which remind me of emoticons, only not as ’silly’. Hopefully the avatars will be up by tomorrow!

Closing the Week

As the week comes to a close I can’t help but go through a checklist in my head.

Website updates - Check
Medical Illustration Roughs - Check
Calendar Project - Check
Power Point Slide Design - Check
Portfolio Updates - Check
More Website Updates/Edits - Check
Other Website Edits - Check
Email Clients About Projects - Check
Closed Completed Tracs - Check

And then I make a checklist for things to work on/start this coming Monday:

Plan for Halloween at DDA
Create Personality Icons for Networking Site
Design Look for New Networking Site
Create a PDF for Client

And then after I finish thinking of what I need to do Monday, I start thinking about things that I would LIKE to do over the weekend.

Rest
Sleep
Continue Drawing Illustrations for Client (only 20 more to go!)
Edit Personal Site
Complete Another Personal Website
Rest
Do Homework
Complete Writing Scripts
Spackle Closet
Move Bookcase and Place all my Books on it
Go to the Zoo for Homework (hopefully with company)
Rest
Plan for Next Year’s Conventions
Finish Costumes/Outfits for Cons (in a week)
Rest

Hopefully I will be able to accomplish as many tasks at home as I do working one day at DDA.
