Out with the Old / In with the New

This weekend I need to clean out my closet and get rid of clothes that either don’t fit, or are so old and out of style that I don’t wear. I have limited closet space, so every piece counts! That said, clothes that I’m holding on to praying to loose enough weight to wear or clothes that I’ve been holding on to since college that bring back memories will be sifted through and given to A Woman’s Place - a nonprofit organization my mom works for that helps battered women get out of unhealthy situations. This organization needs an assortment of things, so I might even venture down to my basement and give some kitchen items that I don’t have a need for. With the new found space that I’ll have, I’ll be able to organize things that haven’t had a home in a long time AND do some shopping for replacement attire that will bring a spring back to my step for fall.

At Dynamic Digital Advertising, we’re cleaning house as well. In fact, today we’re having an hour dedicated to office cleaning. As we recently moved into our new offices, it’s important that we keep everything looking tidy, so it is a space we continue to take pride in for a long time to come. As a project coordinator for a variety of projects ranging from a website redesign and trade show graphic design to a CD-ROM development and video production, I’m glad to say that a few of the projects on my list are reaching completion. It has been exciting to see all of the elements of each project come together from initial concept development to final end product. It’s exciting still to know that they will launch for the world to see and respond to. It is my sincere hope that that each project is received well by the target audience and that each brings about a substantial ROI for our clients. As some projects come to an end, we’re left with time to dedicate to new projects in the mix.

I’m thrilled to see what the fall has in store for our advertising agency AND my closet!

Give and Take

One of the most interesting things about working for a full service advertising company and in being responsible for multiple roles is how one of those responsibilities seems to dominate at all times.

It’s kind of like a relationship. There’s no such thing as a 50-50 split. One minute you might be required to give 70% and your significant other 30% and the next day it’s 45% and 55%, respectively.  It’s just the way it goes.

And so it goes with my job as a writer, Project Coordinator, and in New Business Development. Admittedly the shift is going more and more toward proposal development as I do not really take on any new projects anymore but my existing clients often do a good job in making sure it all evens out.

Right now it’s proposal work ahead by at least a 20-mile stretch.  Video production, website development, branding and marketing, animation, licensing for our custom software like the PowerPoint Generator, and CD-ROM development — it’s all reared its digital head within the last few days.

So, I am spending my time, writing e-mails, returning calls, sharpening my on-camera appearance, and preparing estimates. The good thing is much like in a relationship (well, a long-term relationship perhaps) the other parts of my job know when to keep quiet when New Business Development needs all of the attention.

We are different!

There is a poster boldly displayed on one wall of Dynamic Digital Advertising’s new digs that proclaims, “Don’t be afraid to be different.” I think that is the common thread that binds all who work here; we are each very different. Not weird different, but creatively, healthy, believe-in-ourselves different.

A specific example would be our Programmers. David says our Lead Programmer,  Amy, can solve any problem to do with code.  She is also a whiz with an electric drill.  Tyler is our “Go To” guy for everything from small changes to clients’ websites to installing a complex phone system, while Reggie has become an expert at building gargantuan retail shopping carts, and Vinnie does a lot of action script work and helps with Coldfusion code issues and other language problems. If you put the four of them together, you would never mistake one for the other, and yet they are linked by this strange gene Programmers have for speaking little and spending hours solving problems. It is like there is a mind meld between them and their computers.

Dynamic Digital, as an entity, is unusual too. There is no model we followed when David and I first started a decade+ ago. We grew organically, and David’s business instinct and vision helps shape what is our very complex organization today. But from those early days, we never lost the goal of providing marketing, promotional, and advertising services to businesses. Our old self-promotion brochures push digital photography, cd-rom development, graphic design, and print production among other things. We still do all that, but we just keep adding services. So many services that our Lead Designer, Carrie, wonders how she is going to showcase the new service. (P.S.-She always figures it out.)  Check out our website, the timeline graphically shows our growth, the changes, and the new services. And today, May 15th, 2008, I can promise you, there is real excitement planned for the coming year. Stay tuned.Â
