Life in 2008

Monday, May 5th, 2008

A friend sent me the funniest e-mail. It was about living in 2008 and alike the very best humor often is, it was so very funny because of how true it was.  And we all need to remember to laugh at ourselves no matter how true the facts are. It reminded us of how dependent we are on modern technology. Some of the funniest reminders are, “You accidentally enter your password on the microwave,” ” You e-mail the person who sits at the desk next to you”  and “Every commercial on TV has a website at the bottom of the screen.” In a personal experience, I recently put in a new stove and my brother said that there were so many buttons that he wanted to hook it up to the Internet so I could cook and work at the same time. I thought that was too funny at the time, until I saw a show about the newest appliances being designed. They actually allowed your computer at work to talk to your oven at home. Now, you could start dinner while you were still at work and it would be ready by the time you came home.

It’s unbelievable how modern technology and computer programming can make our lives even more convenient than they already are.  Those websites that are listed at the bottom of every commercial are full of every convenience. It may be the photography or animation that catches your eye, but it’s the custom programming that makes it all happen. Advanced programming is the norm here at DDA, as is custom animation, professional photography services and custom web design. Things that happen everyday here, make lives easier and more convenient for so many.Â

Computer and the evolution of mankind

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

Analyzing problems and finding redundancy and pattern within a problem set is often the approach for the programmer. Breaking down problems into sub-problems for easy solution and then integrating each solution into the larger problem to get closer to the solution. Many of these methodologies are being used within the scientific world, such as the bio-medical field and the study of bio-informatics, which is a branch of science that merges technological applications and theory to further explore biological processes. The merger for the knowledge in the field of computer science and biology, chemistry and physics is great potency in order to explore every aspect this new study. My exposure to the bio-informatics field further invigorates my fascination, the exploration of Genetic information through computer programming of a single bacteria Genome, by finding possible gene through empirical conditions parameters and observations. Much web application, such as the ncbi, has a tremendous amount of information and toola to blast genetic sequences.

Computer continues to be part of the evolution of mankind.

VB

At DDA, we program in many different scripting languages and we try to stay on top of learning the latest programming language, or we inherit source code and have to learn a new language. In classic asp, an interpreted language, the most common language used for programming is Visual Basic Scripting Edition or commonly known as VBScript. VBScript, which has a history of being a client-side language, and is most frequently used today as a server-side language, is built upon the language BASIC (Beginners All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code).

When I was a sophomore in high school, the starting computer language was QBASIC for students that wanted to take an interest in computer programming. Some of the syntax is the same. For example, the classic conditional statement, “IF THEN ELSE END IF” is still the same. Also, the, “DO LOOP” and “WHILE LOOP” are the same. The comparison operator and assignment operator are the same, which is the equals sign.
