New Adventures

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

I just received my new WD 500 gig My Book this morning. I immediately started setting it up so I could begin the long process of transferring my data. I don’t remember if I mentioned this before, but my current HD takes forever to transfer data! It once took me a whole day, from 9am-5pm to transfer 12 gigs. 12. My beautiful TB HD I have at home uses her super fast fire wire connection to transfer 12 gigs in a matter of minutes. Even my 500 gig HD, which has a USB 2 connection, transfers really fast. On a side note, when I bought my 500 gig HD over a year ago, I wanted to get the firewire version. However the sales person at Best Buy convinced me to get a HD with an eSata connection. He also assured me that I could acquire the card for my mac when they had them in stock. It wasn’t until a month later that I found that eSata cards were not made for macs. The archiving session I had a week ago was painful only because it took me forever to back up my files via external HD. I am really hoping that this HD will rise to the challenge and be able to transfer my data at the speed of light. Yes, the speed of light. Perhaps I should name her the Millennium Falcon? Naah, too cliche. On another note, completely unrelated to my HD, I am closing out a number of projects due to my upcoming travel. (I will not be in Thursday or Monday.) I just uploaded a newsletter for print production, translated three web designs into html expandable pages for the client to see and approve, and finished various website updating/alteration projects. Today’s tasks are to start and complete concept sketches of a town setting, get further in the DDA Sketchbook, take some product photography, make a few graphics/roll overs for websites and complete some other site updates. I need to finish these before I leave today.

A Star in our midst?

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

Today is a rainy Spring day that makes you feel kind of blah. So, I am trying to think of something happy. One thing that always makes me smile is our mascot Indie. His blog yesterday made me laugh! He is always so happy and well mannered. He is  always a bright spot in any work day. DDA will again be working with some fun party type products for print design. This time it will be for your pets, and that will make it all that much more fun! Our Graphic Designers will make the most out of our product photography to create a fun and colorful new print ad design that will make some people want to borrow a pet just so they can enjoy the fun! Maybe we can have Indie model right here in our own photography studio! Pretty soon, he’ll be charging for autographs…..

A little Salsa

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Everyone likes to eat food with a variety of tastes, sweetness, textures, and ingredients. For example, on Thanksgiving dinner, I like to have my turkey with gravy, mashed potatoes, corn, and greenbeans together, others do not. Dynamic Digital Advertising is strutured in a similar fashion, less the whole food thing. DDA is an advertising agency with numerous services and capablilities such as copywrighting, database programming, medical animation, video production, product photography, web design, and of-course search engine optimization services.

That’s what makes DDA such a great place to work with; DDA is a one-stop-shop full service advertising company, which will aid, assist, and commit to everything clients or prospects desires or needs. DDA is like a meal, it always works out better when you eat everything together.

Ashes and Snow

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

My dad travels… a lot. Last weekend, he stopped by Philadelphia on his current trip to visit us. He has been on the road and in the air for over two weeks, visiting Mexico, Brazil, the Dominican Republic and on to North Carolina and then back home to France by the end of this week. He works in the tobacco industry, working with flavors and R&D for all the big name cigarettes and cigar companies. One of the beauties of all this traveling is the incredibly cultured experiences he encounters and the wonderful and varied people he meets all around the world.

From this current trip, my dad told me about “Ashes and Snow”. His descriptions of whimsical photos and videos and real-life images of people and animals all displayed in this fantastical and astounding bamboo building in the middle of Zócalo, Mexico City, was hard to comprehend and visualize. This “Nomadic Museum” sounded ethereal. I could tell he was deeply affected by his experience.

He handed me a brown paper bag which I opened and inside found two notebooks, intricately and meticulously hand-made of natural paper and twine. Opening them revealed beautiful sepia photos of women, men and animals in natural environments, untouched by human technology. The package also included a DVD. The video was amazing…

Although the imagery is unaltered by today’s technology and shows humans and animals in their most natural and serene nature, the images were produced and delivered using high technology. The photos were printed in large format, revealing intricacies in skin pores and animal fur. The videos were played on giant screens, where every ripple of muddy water the baby elephant sloshes
around looks like a mountain. It took the artist almost two decades to accumulate the work in the exhibit but it is the technology of today that delivers his images with the most powerful and inspirational potential.

From the installation to the gift packaging to the website and video, the experience is consistent and amazing. Although we may not always be filming eagles flying down narrow columned ruins, or a man suspended in the ocean with humpback whales, this experience is what we strive for in each of our projects at DDA.

Catch-up day

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

I need a catch-up day. I have been a little busy lately with a few extra things that have disrupted my normal schedule, and I find myself way behind in taking care of things. I have managed to miss at least 3 birthdays, haven’t even considered  Mothers’ Day (and I have 2 of those) and forgot to mail the cable bill! The last item being the biggest impact on my household, and shopping on the internet also will be be my saving grace for fixing the first 4 mistakes!

One of my favorite gifts that can be a fit for almost anyone-especially Moms-is jewelry.  One of my favorite places to shop is a website called Chains and Charms and Pandora Jewelry.  It always has something that fits my budget. And it’s right at the top of the Google list (thanks to our Search Engine Marketing Specialists). It’s no coincidence that this is a DDA site. The beauty of the graphic design and product photography, the 360º spin videos, not to mention the interactive animation that allows you to make your own bracelet is amazing! I could play here for days!   But not on my time schedule. Good thing that the custom programming also allows  me to easily choose exactly what I need, so I can get in and out fast. It has all the things that I need to help me catch up. Now I just need to drop off that bill…

The New Office Space

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

The new office has a lot more space than the previous location. Our advertising company needed more space for its operations to continue their growth. The photographers needed more space so, in our new office, they have almost two and half times the previous space to perform digital photography. Some different types of digital photography are, food photography,  product photography, and other photography services. The photography studio is shared with the videographers. Now these two can work concurrently and not bump elbows like in the previous location.

Our new office has plenty of space to grow and we are all excited to be here where all of us have more space and equipment to work with!

Trade Show Worlds

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

Trade show graphics are in a unique world by themselves. Sometimes the graphics convey particular messages, and sometimes they provide backdrop ambiance. Sometimes the world is an Alice in Wonderland one.

For a previous medical trade show we created a forest of trees out of larger-than-life-sized needles. For the same show, I created several 10-foot by 17-foot trompe l’oiel backgrounds of surgical rooms, with 3-D mannequin parts sticking out of the drawing!

Creating graphics at such a large size has unique challenges and rules. The fonts must be readable, the file must be examined carefully for image quality, and the file size has to be manageable.

Today, I’m working on a 10-foot high, 4-panel graphic and wrap-around pedastal for a company for which we have created other printed literature. I like that the literature and other graphics we’ve created for them are visually integrated with each other. We’re also photographing a product for this company today, so that it will be large enough to use for the trade show graphic I’m creating, and now they’ll have the photograph on file to use in any future projects as well.

I hope that people visiting their trade show booth will, at least for a few moments, feel immersed in a unique world.

Shopping on-line

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

This morning I have been working on the new Chains and Charms website. I am adding new “Charming Lives” stories- It’s so nice to hear that people can enjoy the opportunity to shop at home with a fantastic site that can show you everything you could think of. The new product photography is great! And the new web design is beautiful. The unique video capture that has been incorporated informs you a bit about each area. This is a site that makes shopping fun!
