Whether you want to be a part of it or not Social Media outlets are becoming mainstream in both public and private arenas. If you can make it through a day without hearing someone mention the words blog, YouTube, Facebook, or Twitter you are one of the few.
Slowly social media is making its way into the medical industry with force. Within the past few months the American Medical Association (AMA) has launched a YouTube channel, a blog written by their president, and a Facebook page.
They fill their YouTube channel with a video that emphasizes the need for healthcare reform, key speakers from their 2009 annual meeting, and highlights from a healthcare press conference. Their president’s blog has an entry nearly everyday and addresses any topic that the AMA’s efforts on issues that matter to America’s physicians and patients as he travels the country meeting and speaking to new people. Their Facebook page is clean and continuously updated with entries into the President’s blog and health related articles from various sources.
