As I am entertaining the idea of occasionally commuting via motorcycle, I want to be as educated as can be about the risks, safety, and best practices being a new rider on the road. I have been frequenting a number of e-commerce sites researching the safest and best in motorcycle apparel ranging from leather, high abrasion synthetics, and even gear with integrated inflatable air bags. Having visited a number of sites, it’s interesting to see how each is built and the features they offer. It’s also hard not to look at a site and critique with all the amount of e-commerce and interactive websites we build at DDA.
One site in particular was very user friendly with simple icons to represent different apparel and clothing, and nice sleek design, but it took forever to load. Other sites load quickly but are disorganized with menus and links placed all over the site with no real sense of design. Another site I visited last night had a number of videos demonstrating a product which played in a pop-up window but were listed as downloads in the button graphics, a minor issue but still something that rubs me the wrong way when nothing was really “downloaded” to my computer. So as I keep searching for the ideal gear, I’ll have to try not to be swayed by my experience with using an e-commerce site, bad design, and interactivity might be falsely representing a good product… or vice-versa.
