A Sound Mind In A Sound Body
Late last week there was a news article from AP that stated unemployment topped the dreaded 10% number in 15 States, among them California (no surprise to anyone who follows economic news), Michigan (because of GM and the other car manufacturers and their problems), Florida (I’m assuming real estate has something to do with unemployment there), Oregon, Georgia, Rhode Island, Illinois (what would the common denominator be, I wonder)? While it is scary, it is something of a relief to realize that Pennsylvania was not included. Let’s hope that small businesses all over the State are doing what DDA does (working hard to stay in business).
There are many ways we do this of course. Being watchful and proactive with our clients is a top priority. Clients who know they can count on a vendor to solve big and little problems quickly feel a deeper sense of loyalty to that vendor. We definitely prove this on a daily basis. We work hard as a team to prevent things from falling through the cracks. This gets a little harried in July and August because they are big vacation months and many of us have to take on added responsibilities for those enjoying summer breezes somewhere. Or, as is the case for one of our Graphic Designers, Judy, discovering China in under two weeks.
The important facts are that we can still be a well-oiled machine even when we are not all here.
There is one area however, where I wish we would be more vigilant, and that is taking care of ourselves. Whether you walk or run for exercise, swim or dig in your garden, do Yoga or jump rope, we all have to be better. And here, I would like to share Shawn Phillips (author of Strength For Life) observation, “Your body is an amazing adaptive machine. Ask it to be stronger and stronger you will be. Challenge it to go further and further you will go. Coax it to be more limber and more limber you will be. Allow it to mold into the seat of a recliner and, you got it, a recliner seat it will become. Stretch it, push it, pull it; your body is like cellular Play-Doh waiting for you to be the sculptor.”
Let’s heed this advice. It is hard to perform at your best when you do not feel 100%. And DDA needs all of us to perform.
