Do You Rank Values Equally?

When I was growing up, everything seemed to be in black and white when it came to behavior and decorum. There was no such thing as fudging when you misbehaved, you either did or you did not. And the results of a misbehavior could be a quiet talking to by one of the authority figures in your life, to punishments like no allowance for two weeks, or no sleep overs on weekends (which is devastating when you are ten). But, one learns very quickly a value system that guides you forever.

There are behaviors that are not acceptable that cannot be taught to a grown person. For example, using your personal cell phone during work hours, or surfing the net for personal use on company time. Most large corporations have procedures in place that prohibit workers from sending out personal email. Many large companies make everyone punch a time clock and dock you even if you are only five minutes late.

Information today travels so fast that it is very easy to get snippets and misconstrue the original context of the speaker or writer or TV commentator. Notice how politicians constantly do that “that’s-not=what-I-said” dance. And notice too, how easily too many people squirm around the truth, so much so that three people listening to the same speaker can come away with three versions of what was said. If you are not rooted from early childhood to recognize what constitutes right and wrong, it is very easy to be persuaded by smooth talk to believe in a falsehood, to laugh at cruel jokes at the expense of a person, to participate in behavior that is detrimental to a group or community.

At DDA, we sell time, and as such have to keep one eye on the clock, always challenging ourselves to make a project profitable for the company and impressive to the client. This is not easy to do. Working in the digital arena has many pitfalls, there is always something small that can fall through the cracks and bomerang into a real problem. That is why we have project coordinators shepherd website, video and programming projects, that is why our programmers go over code with a fine tooth comb. That is why we try daily not to waste time because wasted time impacts our bottom line negatively.

After a decade DDA is still honing its creative, marketing and technical skills. The pursuit of excellence for a small firm like ours has to be relentless.  We have to be the best to attract the best clients.

At DDA, we adhere to the honor system.
