Making Time Meaningful
The other day Steve startled me with, “Which day are we taking off for 4th of July?” Mt first mental reaction was “Why is he asking so far in advance?” It startled me even more to realize that the 4th of July is barely two weeks away. Where did March, April, June go?
When you are busy doing productive things, time is of little consequence. You do what you have to. At DDA, we strive to make sure that not one area is carrying the brunt of the load. Some days our content developers are writing so furiously it sounds like little feet are tapping out concerts on keyboards, and they have to balance their hours to attend to their project coordinator tasks as well. Down in the Video studio, all eyes are glued to multi screens as they do their action scripting magic and edit new footage with incredible patience. This is not work for antsy people. Same is true about our programmers, not only do they have to be creative, they have to contend with problems and interruptions and meetings and email when they would prefer to work alone.
We work independently and also in tandem. Communication with clients is always a primary concern. Hence our very continuous cc method. Nothing can fall through the cracks even when some clients have no concept of time. We have had projects that have been on hold for months that will suddenly need resurrecting and completing in an unrealistic time frame. Thank goodness this is not the norm.
Until the economic climate shows more stability, we have to work harder to make time meaningful. So there are some self promotion projects in the works that will showcase DDA’s graphic and technical skills even more. There are preliminary meetings with potential clients that we hope will select us after they have done their due diligience. We are not sitting still. All of us at DDA are trying to fill the DDA pipeline so the Fall and Winter months will see all departments functioning at full throttle.
I believe what the author Charles Richards said about time, “Don’t be fooled by the calendar. There are only as many days in the year as you make use of. One man gets only a week’s value out of a year, while another man gets a full year’s value out of a week.”
