In the Interest of Efficiency
At our advertising agency, we are constantly finding new ways to improve our efficiency without sacrificing quality. For instance, during the course of production for a medical marketing video it was revealed that a significant amount of time had been devoted to only one chapter of seven. After numerous back-and-forths with the client in nailing down just the right video design (incorporating different color schemes, motion and music), the client then requested changes in the video clips used from our on-location shoot, “just to see what it would look like.”
In the client’s defense, he doesn’t know that it is time-consuming to not only reformat a different clip and edit it in, but to render out a new version all just for a different perspective. It is our job to make him aware, so time isn’t wasted in giving him the exact look he wants because it’s not only his goal, but ours as well. We’ve switched up our video production process a bit, however, it is in the interest of efficiency and quality and we’re sure the end result will be worth it. In our field, time literally means money, and most especially on projects that are quoted on an hourly basis. We do our best to maximize every minute, every hour so that projects don’t go over budget AND so that clients are WOWed.
