Medical on My Mind
As I may have mentioned before in the DDA blogosphere, my best friend from high school was born with Cystic Fibrosis — a disease that affects the mucus glands in the lungs, digestive system, and other organs. As of now, has no cure.
One in 4,000 children in the United States are born with CF, and as recently as 10 or 15 years ago, the average CF patient was lucky to live past the age of 20. But thanks to great advances in treatment, the average person with CF can now live into their 40s or even 50 — and scientists believe they are closer to a cure for CF than they are with nearly any other terminal illness.
Anyway, last weekend, I was fortunate enough to attend a CF benefit in New York City, where my friend now lives and works. She has helped organize the event in recent years, but the steep price tag for tickets has always scared me away. This time, I planned ahead and saved my money, since I decided there really is nothing more important that I could spend it on.
Andrea and I were rewarded with a wonderful event, featuring great food, a top-shelf open bar, silent auction, and raffle. While I didn’t win any prizes (and couldn’t afford the auction asking price for VIP tickets to the Colbert Report), I got to see many friends I haven’t seen in years, and my friend who helped organize the event was truly touched by our presence there.
In the days leading up to the event, I found myself on the website for the CF Foundation, looking for information. As I was poking around, I was reminded of all DDA can do for its medical clients, and all that can be done to create a great medical website. I found the information I was looking for, but I was left wanting so much more, and envisioning what DDA could do with a site like that if given the chance.
Not only could we create dedicated areas for special events like this one, but also direct links to pages that explain CF and its impact on those who suffer from it. We could create detailed medical animations that show how CF affects the digestive and respiratory systems. We could create integrated video clips that include doctors and experts discussing the latest advances in research, and direct shopping cart links so visitors could make a donation from the comfort of their desk. We could even create a special area of the site for doctors who treat CF, which would include continuing medical education (CME) applications and other doctor-specific tools.
At DDA Medical, we have experience in every single one of these features, and an entire stockpile of features just waiting to be put to good use. As the Internet becomes an even more important part of our everyday lives, the medical and healthcare communities are beginning to see what they are missing. And with DDA Medical on your side, a unique and useful medical website, healthcare IT application, CME, or patient portal is just a phone call or click away.
