Streaming About Sports
As Laura pointed out in her blog today, streaming media is all the rage on the Internet these days. Nearly every regular “terrestrial” radio station streams its feed live online, while the newly merged Sirius/XM satellite radio streams nearly every one of its hundreds of stations live on the Internet. Even some TV stations now broadcast select programming on the Internet.
But as DDA’s resident sports nut (a title I’ve given to myself), I can tell you that streaming video and live webcasting is having a huge impact for sports and sports fans. When I was in college in Boston, Phillies baseball games obviously were not on TV very often. But I was able to pay a nominal subscription fee through the Major League Baseball website, which allowed me to watch Phillies games on my computer. Even though this wasn’t that long ago, the video quality left a lot to be desired, and the feed was often quite choppy. But it was the “cool” new technology, so we made due with what we had.
Today, nearly every sport has embraced the phenomenon of live webcasting and online streaming video. The video quality on the MLB.com video player is now incredibly sharp (if you have a good broadband connection), while nearly every other league also broadcasts its games live via the Internet. Most charge a fee, and often “black out” local team broadcasts to discourage fans from watching online when they could be watching on TV (usually using your IP address to determine geographic location), since the commercials are not shown on online feeds. The Internet in general — and streaming video in particular — has obviously made a huge impact on every aspect of society, but it may have no greater impact that on the world of sports.
Here at DDA, we understand just how important webcasting services, live webcasting, or streaming video can be for your business or organization. Whether you need to conduct a live training session, pop in on a trade show on the other side of the world via a live streaming video connection, or demonstrate a new product through an on-demand or archived webcast, DDA can handle all your needs. We already have a webcast system set up in our video studio, which allows clients to keep an eye on their video production from anywhere in the world.
Because DDA has a wide variety of specialists under one roof, we can handle every piece of your webcast. Our video specialists will make sure the production value of your video is second to none, while our programmers and Internet experts will make sure the stream flows perfectly through cyberspace. We can even set it up with passwords and other security measures to make sure only your desired audience is getting in on the webcasting fun!
