A Little Pixie Dust and A Lot of Effort
Last night I made a change in my auto insurance policy. As I was waiting for a rep to pick up, I thought it curious that I had not been prompted to enter my policy number. When the rep did finally get on the phone, he immediately asked me to verify my name and date of birth.
“How did you know who I was?” I asked.
Simple. If you’re calling from the phone number that was used to register the policy, the computer picks it up and instantly populates all of your information. In this case, the computer was off by a digit or two and thus did not get my name correct, but I was still in awe nonetheless, and I got to say, a bit freaked out.
In all honesty, not much in the way of technology should surprise me. At DDA, we are always doing amazing things in a mix of media from video production and website design and development to 2D and 3D animations and custom programming applications. With all capabilities under one roof, we combine just about any interactive or traditional marketing service you can imagine to create innovative and unique projects that go beyond anything else out there.
Technology to me is a wondrous and mystical being. While I’m quite aware of everything we do here, as a writer I do not know all the ins and outs of how we get what we make to function, like all of the little flash programming tricks and features on websites and videos that track usage, display new images for different visitors, route people in different directions and on and on.
In my mind, it’s all tooth fairy and pixie dust and boom it’s magically created. But working day to day with all of the trained and professional people that I do, I know that’s there really a lot of skill and effort involved. They just make it look easy.
