Creating a Marketing Idol
It started with just the audition shows. Then it grew to Hollywood week, then the top finalists, until finally, I was watching the entire season of American Idol. It’s something I’m not a fan of admitting, but yes, I watch it. I love singing, what can I say. To be honest, there aren’t many shows on TV that I watch regularly. Most of the time the television is on just as background noise. This is how I rationalize the addiction, there’s nothing else to watch. But even if it’s slightly corny and the judges can be harsh, I have to admit that there is some clever marketing that goes into this show. Not only do they use the bad auditions to hook people like myself, they also play on human compassion by showing glimpses into the lives of some of the more notable people auditioning — like a girl whose grandmother has Alzheimer’s or a young man who survived cancer. These human-interest stories melt your heart and make you feel invested in the show. You want to keep watching to see how far that “girl stuck in Tennessee with no real future” will go.
The other thing Idol creators, producers, and whomever, have done is to run it just once a year. A rarity if you consider the over-saturation of the American television market. The philosophy seems to be something like, if people like it, let’s run it for 15 years no matter how ridiculous it gets, and if it’s getting high ratings let’s make more and more and other shows too just like it. I mean aren’t there like 1,000 versions of CSI? And how many times do they really need to run “The Amazing Race” each year? Idol has managed to hang on for so long with such popularity, in part, because it has stayed true to its once-a-year status.
OK, so I can’t promise that DDA can make your product or service as popular as American Idol. But what I can promise is clever and experienced medical and corporate marketing and advertising services. DDA has a full-picture, holistic approach to every project we undertake, which means we consider all of the issues, research the target audience, and give the client as much input and control throughout the entire process as they desire. This includes search engine marketing (SEM) techniques, website design and development, medical animations, interactive advertising and marketing services, and video production, in addition to every other service we provide.
With a focus on innovation and creating highly interactive, visually-pleasing, and engaging work that truly immerses the user in the experience, you can be sure whatever it is we create for you will be entertaining as well. So maybe you won’t have as broad a reach as Idol, but you can certainly be at the top within your own niche industry.
