The problem with a long commute is you double, triple, and maybe even quadruple the amount of outside influences that can affect your morning drive. For instance, any number of major road closings can mean extra traffic at some point in my drive. Snow, ice, heavy rain, wind, fog, and who knows what else can also pop up at any moment for any length of time between the time I leave my house and reach the office.
Now, I’m not complaining. I’d say I’m pretty successful at combating these issues, still arriving at work well before starting time, but there are, of course, days, where there’s not much I can do.
