Listen Up

I like to talk. Ask anyone who knows me and they will agree.

But, I also like to listen. It’s an important quality in anything you do, especially when work is involved, and especially in my job as a writer.

Though it seems easy, it isn’t always. When you are working in an environment like DDA, things move pretty quickly, there are always things to do, and as we are at the top of our game with innovation and technology from video production to website development, including our most recent SEM Award, we like to think we know what we are doing. Which often means consulting clients and sharing those viewpoints.

But an equally important component to ensuring we are getting the job done properly and really taking our client’s needs into consideration, is to slow down and take some time to really listen to what they have to say. This applies to everything — from a client comment on script content or a brochure, to a design revision one of the graphic designer’s may receive, or a new tool, like a blog system that a client wants to add to his or her site, and, naturally, the new requests that come in.

It’s a wonderful thing to be at the top of your industry and know what it will take to get your clients there, it’s even better to know that you’re truly giving them what they want.
