Sometimes There’s a Reason

We all know the power of advertising, have grown up with the commercials, know the effect strategic marketing can have on the mind. Sometimes, though, even if it’s heavily marketed, there are certain products we buy not because we have been bombarded with their clever marketing messages since birth, but because they are really that good.

For instance, ketchup. Months ago at the grocery store I made a decision to buy a large bottle of the generic brand thinking that there would be no difference whatsoever other than saving about $2.-$3. I could not have been more wrong. My boyfriend is extremely laid back but upon seeing a generic extra-large ketchup bottle in the fridge, he nearly went into convulsions. Since that time, we are name-brand only, and the five-letter wide-mouth jar of  the “good stuff” is always in plain sight in the fridge, to prevent future panic attacks. To him there is an unmistakable, fundamental difference in the taste, and after growing up on homemade versions, he has vowed that as an adult he will never be deprived of real ketchup.

Sometimes the extra money is worth it. You can scrimp and save a few pennies here and there but when you’re sacrificing something, even if it’s just a little bit of happiness, it’s not always worth it.

Because DDA is a full service marketing and advertising company, we compete with many other companies and agencies in all different segments of the industry. Some are purely search engine marketing firms, others website and design companies, and still others are video production studios. No matter what the service is, whether it’s 2D or 3D animation, interactive websites, videos, games, or eLearning platforms, there is always a cheaper alternative. There are companies out there who are devoted to churning out templates, cookie-cutter versions of the same old thing, or handing out licenses to materials that are being used by upwards of hundreds of people at one time. Yes, all of these items can be really affordable, but is it worth it in the end?

It might appear on the surface that you’re getting the exact same thing, but when you actually compare the product of a lesser, more template-driven company to one DDA produces, you will see immense differences in quality, innovation, and the end effect is has on the target audience.

Marketing and branding is important; it can help a company to achieve heights it only ever dreamed of. But in the end, it all comes down to the product, and whether or not it’s really good enough to stand up against all of those other companies that are trying to undercut prices and peddle a lesser product.
