The Golden Rule

I have this philosophy that I’ve been trying to employ lately in all areas of my life. It’s pretty simple and basically it’s this, “I will not sacrifice the person I want to be because of someone else’s actions.” Essentially, it boils down to always trying to be a better and bigger person no matter what is done to you, so someone cuts you off, but instead of cutting off the next guy or trying to get revenge on that guy, you let it go. It’s much simpler to comprehend then it is to always adopt, but all you can do is try.

The way we treat people is incredibly important and we should be careful not to make too many excuses for our actions, because after a while the excuses run out and the only thing really responsible for our bad behavior is ourselves.

In my role in assisting in new business development at DDA,  I always try to keep an open mind and a positive attitude. It’s important to me to treat everyone in a respectable way whether it’s someone who has a brochure or logo design or an incredibly detailed, highly-functioning custom programming project, even if it’s someone that I know is not a good fit for us. I know that the project coordinators and all of the other people in the indivudal creative and technical departments feel the same as I do, and always go above and beyond to accomodate our clients, regardless of their needs, from video production to search engine marketing (SEM).

Keeping my philosophy in my work life makes it much easier for me to maintain it in my personal life. Because no matter the situation, we should always treat others well and with respect, and that’s how you build long-term relationships and instill a sense of camaraderie.
