You Know What I Meant!
For some reason, there’s one particular joke I remember hearing once from a stand-up comedian. I don’t remember who it was, but he was talking about using his computer, and how he wished every keyboard had a “You Know What I Meant!” button. It’s a silly joke, but one that’s pretty funny for any of us who use a computer regularly. It would be useful when you type “tehn” instead of “then”, or end a website URL in .ocm and end up getting some crazy website instead of the one you wanted. In fact, there are actually nasty virus-causing websites out there that have bought up URLs one typo away from popular sites, like cnn.com, espn.com, yahoo.com, etc. At least once per day here at DDA, I wish I had a “You Know What I Meant” button.
Today, I was reminded again why humans will always have an edge on even the smartest computers. And I was left dreaming of a “You Know What I Meant!” button. Tyler came up to my desk to walk me through a few quick changes to my Microsoft Outlook settings, since we’re using an upgraded server for our email. Everything went fine, and he also helped me set up the new webmail to pull in all my old webmail, just in case I ever need an old email when checking from home.
One small problem: When I did that, Microsoft Outlook saw all those old emails as new, unread messages. So it started to download all of them, even though they are exact copies of messages already in my inbox. After some scrambling, Tyler and I were able to stop the process mid-stream, but Outlook will still spend the rest of the afternoon downloading 400 messages that went through before we could stop it. We were able to set up one folder to catch them all, which will make for easy deleting, but it was still a major hassle. At that point, you just want to scream at your Outlook, and say, “You Know What I Meant!”
As you can see, computers and technology are all well and good, but they can’t read our minds. That’s why the experienced and talented staff here at DDA will always be our biggest asset. We can get all the high definition cameras we want, but if we did’t have experienced video specialists to operate them, they’d become VERY expensive paperweights. We can have the fastest servers and latest technology, but without a team of innovative programmers, there would be no one around to use it. We can have the latest keyword research tools, online reference materials, and Google wizardry — but only DDA’s degreed copywriters and search engine optimization (SEO) specialists know how to properly use them.
Whether you’re looking for webcasting services, live streaming video, medical website development, printed projects, graphic design, or any other marketing or advertising service, there’s a very good chance the talented staff here at DDA has the experience to pull it off. So contact us today and put our creative and free-thinking minds to good use.
While we wait for your call, maybe one of our talented programmers could work on a “You Know What I Meant!” button.
