When the summer of 2008 arrived, it marked the first test of the air conditioning system at the new home of Dynamic Digital Advertising (DDA) in Southampton, Pa. After a few warm days – and a few surprisingly high energy bills – it was discovered that the building’s prior tenants had turned a blind eye to the fact that the office was lacking any kind of insulation.
That meant that in many areas of the office – including our state-of-the-art video studio and second floor, which houses our team of degreed copywriters – any cool air being generated by the air conditioner was escaping through the ceiling while the hot sun was beating down on the roof.
For a full-service advertising agency and website design company like DDA, keeping overhead costs down helps us offer our clients competitive pricing on our wide variety of services. But that is not the only reason for the large investment we eventually made in high-tech insulation. By insulating the ceilings, storage areas and external walls, we did our part to stay green, while saving green at the same time.
It was a week-long process that proved inconvenient for all of us, who, at one point or another, had to relocate to other areas of the building until the work was completed. But it was well worth it in the end, and has provided a much more comfortable working environment that is also environmentally friendly. Not to mention that energy costs for August, 2008, were 70% less than the previous owner’s costs for August, 2007.
