Many companies – both large and small – like to boast about how green they are, but very few back it up with a truly dedicated effort. They put it on the back-burner, stick it in a drawer, and only worry about it when it’s convenient.
But at Dynamic Digital Advertising (DDA), we strive not only to be a full-service and green advertising agency, but one of the greenest small businesses in the Philadelphia area – and beyond. And one of the most important steps is taken via inclusion in an innovative PECO Energy program.
Since 2004, PECO (Philadelphia Electric Company) has offered the PECO WIND program – and DDA has been a member of PECO WIND since its inception. As of the fall of 2008, DDA was one of more than 40,000 customers in the program.
PECO WIND allows customers to pay for monthly blocks of kilowatt-hours or pay a small fee each month depending on their energy usage. That money directly offsets costs related to the creation of wind energy in Pennsylvania, and allows more of the electricity in the state’s power grid to come from wind turbines located in the southwestern and northeastern corners of the state. So while the electricity flowing into our Southampton offices may not come directly from the wind farms, our small contribution allows PECO to reduce the energy it draws from “ungreen” sources such as coal and nuclear power plants.
PECO reports that the environmental benefit of PECO WIND in 2007 alone was the same as planting 12 million trees or cutting back 157 million miles in driving distance. Every penny spent in the PECO WIND program pays for a specific number of kilowatt-hours of electricity coming from the wind farms. In fact, in 2008, the United States Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory ranked PECO WIND fifth in the list of top ten green power programs, based on customer enrollment.
At DDA, we do everything we can to be as green as possible. Whether it’s our compressed four-day workweek, any of the countless steps we take to be green, or our investment in energy efficiency, we’re proud to be green. And with our investment in PECO WIND, we’re putting our money where our mouth is.
