MUSC Virtual Simulation Solutions Medical Training Tool
The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) joined with St. Joseph's Voice & Swallowing Center and Johns Hopkins University to develop an assessment of swallowing function and impairment. They asked DDA Medical to design, develop and program an eLearning platform to teach Speech-Language Pathologists in the United States and abroad a research-based standardization of the modified barium swallow. The result is this multi-layered presentation that is poised to become the standard in assessing physiologic swallow impairment in adults. The presentation includes 72 embedded fluoroscopy videos with 72 synchronized 3D animations, all with narrations and supplementary content. The 3D animations were created and animated from scratch by our team of experienced in-house medical animators. Additionally, there are 15 full-length swallowing studies and 20 individual studies included in this platform, as well as a full practice area and reliability testing area where users demonstrate their proficiency by scoring 10 full MBS studies with at least 80% scoring accuracy. Once clinicians successfully pass the online reliability testing, the eLearning platform grants access to a patient data and reporting online user interface. Custom programmed by DDA's team of degreed professionals, this patient data and reporting user interface provides clinicians
with the tools required to track treatment progress and diagnoses across inputted patient records.
