The term component video
refers to the transmission of a video signal that has been separated
into two or more components. The human eye can only compute three
colors: red, blue, and green. Other colors are perceived through
the combination of these three colors. Component cables transmit
these signals to a television, computer monitor, or other visual
device through separate channels to achieve the appropriate color
balance. A component video cable will give you a better picture
quality than a composite video cable because the signal does not
need to be diminished, as it is transmitted separately, and not
together.
