Move Over Jess, I have my Own Aha Moment

So our Search Engine Optimization Specialist Jess is always writing about how she likes to figure out things for herself without having to call in backup and quite frankly, I’ve been getting a bit envious. Especially given that I’m pretty sure our Lead Programmer Amy is secretly thinking of code names and plotting to change offices just to get away from my barrage of calls and e-mails that always begin with, “Ummmm, Amy, just one quick question….”

This past Friday, however, I am proud to say that I had what Jess calls an Aha moment. A small one, but one all the same. We created a custom Intranet for a company and unfortunately since that time the main person in charge left. So, we’ve been assisting his supervisor in learning how to use it. It’s really not difficult but there are some little ins and outs that require practice.

He e-mailed on Friday with a question, which I immediately forwarded to Amy and another of our programmers who was on the project, for an SOS. Then an hour or two later, another question. I was ready to hit the forward and send it along, but then I paused. “Wait,” I thought. “This looks familiar.” Indeed it was. It was a question similar to one he asked the week before and By George I knew the answer.

So, I whipped up an e-mail and sent it along. A short time later he responded. It worked.

OK, so this is certainly not groundbreaking and I won’t be leaving my fellow copywriters anytime soon to become a part of the programming department, but it was kind of exciting for me. Truthfully, before coming to DDA, I did not know much about anything computer related except how to use one. So this is a bit of a mini breakthrough.

With our full range of services — video production to print to graphic design to animation and all in between — you’re bound to pick up a lesson or two from your fellow employees.

So, maybe with just a little bit more time, I won’t see Amy running in the other direction every time I get near……hmmmmm…just maybe.
