Sew Not An Expert

Here is what I learned this week: Do not undertake something that you cannot complete.

No, I am not referring to anything  DDA related. I am referring to my infinite wisdom of volunteering myself to make my niece’s Halloween costume. “Oh, you sew?” you ask. No, I don’t.

She is going to be a kitty cat or as she likes to refer to them a “meow.” It’s been going relatively smoothly, with the exception of a mishap in the “seat” area that had to be remedied, and I have not attached myself or the costume to any fixtures in my house, so I am considering myself a winner at this point.  Did I mention I don’t own a sewing machine? Yeah, all hand-sewn. How do you explain to a 4-year-old that there will be no extraneous activity for the evening because her seams may burst?

My point, is, while I agreed to do the project having no experience in the sewing or clothing arena, it is for my niece, and no matter how it comes out (even crooked, which it currently is), she will know it was done with love. Plus, she’s four so she won’t remember this.

But when it comes to marketing and advertising work, there are a lot of companies out there with little to no experience in  video production, website design and development, and search engine marketing. They bill themselves as website development company, or a video production to studio, or search engine optimization specialists. Then when it comes down to it, they either deliver poor results or nothing at all.

What every company needs is a company that can deliver beforehand. Sounds funny, right? But with DDA, we have hundreds of examples of our work in a variety of areas, including hundreds of videos at DDA Video, a long list of projects of all kinds in our Medical and Corporate portfolios, and detailed reports on the search engine rankings and positions of the websites we developed, which we would be happy to share, if you gave us a call. So, right from the beginning, we can prove we’re an expert. Not every company can do the same on so many different levels.

And in case you’re wondering, don’t worry. I am not planning on marketing my sewing skills anytime soon, so you don’t have to worry about getting duped into buying a crooked costume. From now on, I am leaving it to the experts.
