“A” is for Advertising

Advertising is something people either don’t give much thought to, or take for granted. I once fell into the category of “don’t give much thought to”. I was under the impression that, as an artist, I wouldn’t really need to know the inner workings of advertising. It wasn’t my field; if I had wanted to get into advertising, I would have majored in it. I look back at how I thought years ago and laugh.

While I thought that it was not my responsibility, I should have at least taken measures to get my name out there. I had my printed postcards, business cards and art prints, but I hardly did anything with them. I took no real measures to collect contacts for direct mailers or email newsletters. I never attempted to have ads printed in a magazine nor did I properly brand myself when going to conventions.

If I had had the knowledge that I have now 4 years ago, I might be in a completely different place. I now have large format banner stands to mark my presence at shows, I keep people updated with an email newsletter, I have ads printed in magazines, and a lot of other projects that are quickly taking shape.

Your business shouldn’t learn the hard way and suffer because of it. Take advantage of DDA’s amazing skills and vast amounts of knowledge in all facets of advertising.
