Getting Tired of Baseball Yet?

Sorry, too bad for you. That’s what I’ll be talking about for a while.

My beloved Philadelphia Phillies finished off their first-round series on Sunday with a convincing win over the Milwaukee Brewers. Now, the players — and especially the fans — have to wait three agonizing days before the National League Championship Series begins. That series is best-out-of-seven, and it starts Thursday night in Philadelphia. While I wish it would start tonight, I will appreciate our four-day week even more than usual on Thursday night, since the game doesn’t start until well after 8 p.m. and I won’t have to wake up early for work on Friday.

After a tough loss Saturday night (which I didn’t see much of, thanks to a very successful block party), the Phillies turned in a complete team effort on Sunday to finish off the best-of-five series. Phillies’ shortstop Jimmy Rollins set the tone right away, as he opened the game with a home run to quiet a loud crowd in Milwaukee. Pat Burrell, who has struggled lately, hit two home runs, and starting pitcher Joe Blanton was impressive. Pitcher Brad Lidge came on in the ninth inning to end the game, and begin the champagne celebration.

As I was searching for a way to tie the game in with my work at DDA, I realized that this is very similar to how we try to work with clients here at DDA (I know, I know — bear with me). We try to make a great first impression with our incredible website, which is now well over 7,000 pages, and allows us to reach potential clients without the need for salespeople. Then we call on our team of pros: talented graphic designers, experienced programmers, detailed videographers, creative animators, degreed copywriters, and meticulous search engine optimization (SEO) specialists. Some projects include every member of the team, while others are more specific to one of our many areas of expertise. And when the project is nearly complete, we call on everyone one more time to make sure everything is perfect and the client is happy with the result.

When it’s all over, we don’t usually celebrate by spraying champagne and beer everywhere (although maybe we should try it sometime?), like the Phillies did Sunday in their locker room. We settle for a smile, hopefully a testimonial from the client we add to the growing list on our website, and our usual Thursday afternoon beer or glass of wine. We swing for the fences every day at DDA, and hopefully the Phillies will do the same thing this weekend against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

And if they do, you’ll be rewarded with at least two more weeks of baseball-related blogs during the World Series.
