Fast Food Chains Turn Toward Billboard Use to Boost Breakfast Sales

Don't be too surprised to see cows hanging about in and around the Houston area. The fast food chain, Chick-fil-A, has started using billboards as a way to heavily promote eating chicken among the morning rush. Some of these ads even remain generic and look as if they promote regular breakfast items, such as orange juice and coffee.

For more than a decade, the fast food chain has been marketing its pro-chicken messages. In fact, recently the Cows from Chick-fil-A's "Eat Mor Chikin" Campaign were initiated into the Outdoor Advertising Association of America's Hall of Fame. The Cows were originally made in 1995 as part of a 3D billboard campaign. Chick-fil-A credits the billboard use with quadrupling the chain's profit over the last ten years.

In Chicago, McDonalds had started its latest breakfast campaign with a brand new billboard in Wrigleyville. The billboard was a result of some heavy competition from Starbucks, who began selling breakfast sandwiches, and Wendy's, who began testing out breakfast foods in several markets. The exact billboard for McDonalds is located west of Wrigley Field and includes a sundial that falls on a different breakfast item per hour until 12pm.
