Challenge
Medical device manufacturers routinely face training challenges. To instruct a mass audience of medical device users is no small feat and can drain staff and monetary resources. Terumo Medical Corporation, the manufacturer of the Trucise Total System™, a sterile tubing welding system, tasked DDA with streamlining the medical device training process by enlisting DDA's staff of eLearning developers to create a CD-ROM training tool complete with testing, immediate certification, and a resource library of pertinent training information.
Objectives
Instruction manuals are excellent resources of information but they are often overwhelming in size and language. In development of the Trucise Total System™ Training Tool, DDA sought to present information on device use in a manner that was easy to understand and was engaging for the end user. To achieve this goal, DDA developed a virtual learning environment in which device use was clearly simulated. Testing, certification, and a resource library of important documentation accompanied the training course, providing Trucise device users with a comprehensive training destination.
Solution
The Trucise Total System™ Training Tool features a five-chaptered tutorial comprised of pseudo animations, voiceover narration, and supporting text. Device features and processes are clearly mapped thanks to the DDA-created photographic-based animations, script, and graphics that were all developed in-house. A testing and certification component challenged and affirmed adequate comprehension levels. Trainees received immediate notification of correct or incorrect answers, as well as a customized certificate of course completion once a satisfactory score had been achieved. Furthermore, a documents center housed a glossary of terms, operating instruction manuals, and additional training resources to provide device users with a complete hub of training information. Aesthetically, the training tool featured a sleek design that reinforced Terumo Medical Corporation's established brand identity and presented platform components in a straightforward and organized way.
Results
The Trucise Total System™ Training Tool streamlined an extensive training process into a concise, effective, and engaging package. Formatted on CD-ROM, the training platform was meant to reach a mass audience and reduce Terumo Medical Corporation's training challenges.
